Boys Will Be Boys!
Yes. Last night in nursery I noticed Luke sneezing and drainage running from his nose. "Please, Lord! Let's not be getting sick." I gingerly wiped his precious, little button nose only to see on the tissue a tinge of purple.
Yes, purple.
So, I laid him down and looked up the short tunnel and didn't see anything. Ok...just something weird in the air. More drainage, more tissues, more purple.
Did I mention I don't recall purple being in the palette of colors that usually comes from that cavity? Just checking.
So, I remind myself to remind myself when I get home to use the great hospital bulb syringe, you know...the one that has the suction power of, say, an undercurrent in the Gulf of Mexico during hurricane season, and make sure nothing has made it's way in there.
A few minutes later, little Taz freezes...and shakes...and screams. I go to pick him up and he is stiff! I look and peeking out of the bottom of the right nostril...a grape.

A GRAPE!
I'm sure he fells much better now.
Now that his sinus cavity is done being a wine press.
Yes, purple.

Oh, God, Make Me More Humble
Every week day I forward on to some friends and family a devotional from the Blackaby boys called "Experiencing God Day-by-Day", and this was today's. I couldn't resist posting it as it spoke to me in so many ways. While God has taken the last 4+ months to work on my humility, I am still a work in progress...
Humble Yourself
"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." (Luke 14:11)
There are two ways to attain high esteem. One is the world’s method: Take every opportunity to promote yourself before others; seize occasions for recognition and manipulate your way into the center of attention. The other way is God’s way: Humble yourself. Rather than striving for recognition and influential positions, seek to put others first. Cultivate humility, for it does not come naturally. One of the many paradoxes of the Christian life is that when God sees your genuine humility, He exalts you.
Proverbs 16:18 warns that if we put our efforts into promoting ourselves, we will be brought down. Jesus told of a man who tried to enhance his own image (Luke 14:7–11). While attending a banquet, he immediately claimed the seat of honor. When the host saw this, he humiliated this man by asking him to move to the least honorable place to make room for a more distinguished guest. Jesus said the wise thing to do is to seek the lowest position and allow others to exalt you if they feel you are worthy.
There is an enormous difference between the way the world honors you and the way God does. Proverbs 25:27 indicates that glory is not legitimate if you seek it yourself. When the world exalts you, you are the one who receives the credit. When God exalts you, others will praise Him for what He has done in your life. If you honor God, He will honor you (1 Sam. 2:30). Strive to humble yourself and bring glory to God. Allow Him to be the One to honor you in the way that pleases Him!

There's No Place Like Home
There really isn't! Thanks to the president of my company and to my Father-in-Law, Belle and I were able to swap our return destination tickets to Little Rock for ones to Detroit Metro. After over an hour delay on the tarmac at LaGuardia, this little Momma was beginning to sweat a little.
A lot.
I knew we only had about twenty minutes to connect in Cincinnati and that was not faring well already being an hour behind. But, the pilot assured us he would make up time in the air and our flight time would only be 1h30m. ONCE WE WOULD GET AIRBORN! By my watch, that meant we had exactly 6 minutes upon landing (not including taxi-ing, parking, and unloading) to make it to our connecting flight. So, the flight attendant must have been pretty tired of the cranky passengers complaining.
"Attention passengers. If you do not have a tight connection, please remain seated so those who do can try to make their plane."
Belle...give me your shoes. (Flip flops are not conducive to high-speed chasing.)
Luckily, we at least land in the same concourse as our connecting gate. We need to get to C4, so we follow the signs to C4, and what do we see upon arrival...gates M-T! Hell-o...C4 is supposed to be here. Who knew C4 was between the M and N signs. Thank you, fellow passenger who saw the tears in my eyes.
We sit, store our carryons appropriately and make sure our tables are in the upright and locked position. They close the door. Exactly 3 minutes, people! 3 minutes from the time we sat until they closed the door. For those of you who know me any at all know me and a 3 minute cushion do not get a long very well.
We landed and went straight to family visitation, then to dinner, then the next family visitation where me and Lukey opted to leave early for a long winter's nap (which in Michigan compared to here DID feel like winter!) Up at 7:00 for breakfast, back to the hotel to change and load up and then off to the funeral, graveside, dinner, grave again and then around 6:00 EST begin the trek home. We made it back to Conway around 8:00 am Saturday morning. Sweet mercy we have still not caught up!
My parents came in to bring us the dogs back that night and invited all of us to go to church with them in Pangburn (more of that car riding that we have become so fond of, or rather our tushs grafted to the cloth on the seats). We didn't get home from there until 5:00 then we headed to get something to eat and then to see my precious nephew at my brother-in-law's. Home late, down to bed, and up for work at 4:45 am!
Raise your hand if you wished you were me...
No, really...despite the constant go we were on, I couldn't be more thankful for coworkers, friends, children, family and God for giving them all to me. I'm thankful for the opportunity to be there for my mother-in-law when she needed me so. I'm thankful for traveling grace (yeah, you little blue Honda know who you are). I'm thankful for love.
Hug someones neck and tell 'em you love 'em. Life is a vapor...
A lot.

"I told you Momma! I just knew it, I knew it, I KNEW it! New York IS WILD!"
Today we got a later start, but we got all gussied up and headed out to the city to see the show. She kept growling and growling!

We grabbed the subway to avoid trapsing the city in heels. While piling out of the subway Belle pipes up with "I told you Momma! I just knew it, I knew it, I KNEW IT! New York IS WILD!" She wasn't lying, either.

And I must say the Lion King was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Here are just a few photos.

That about sums our trip up, but we have many more photos to help tell the small stuff that makes trips like these. We hope to have them all for you to see soon.
***In re guards to the post about Grandma Bunyea. Please pray for our family. David, Luke, Johnny and Becky all just arrived after a 16+ hour drive in Belleville just a little bit ago. Belle and I were able to get our flights changed to take us from here to Detroit in the morning. Also pray for Alison as she is still returning to Little Rock just alone now.
Thank you all for all of your prayers and support in everything! Grandma, New York and the many other blessings we have received in just the last few weeks. God is Good! All the Time! All the Time! God is Good!

Did someone say nap?
I could really use one. I have tried to unwind after spending these days out, but I just can't. So, short of a few cat naps here and there, I'm officially running on 34 hours with no sleep. Yeah...it does a body good.

Today we headed out as soon as I got off work and did more tour busing. That tour bus took us to Casa Bella in Little Italy and the food was great! Of course Belle just kept pointing out to us that everyone just loves to use her name in everything!

After dining there we went back to our bus stop...uh via SoHo and Tribeca (totally not on the Google directions or anything) and Belle says, "So, will we be on this bus for a short time or for a long time. I told her it would be for a long time (all of another hour). Here was her response...

I DREAMED I could be her! So, even laid my head back and took a short siesta with her. We both got a little sun, but nothing too terrible.
These are just a few of the pictures, like I said before. Once I get them all uploaded into a single folder, I'll invite y'all on out for some sweet tea and peruse memory lane with us!
Until then...take a nap for me!

New York is Outside...Did y'all know that?
We got up early Monday morning and had a lovely breakfast at the hotel. Upon leaving there I had to check in with my workplace for a little and off we went.
1st stop...the train station where she realized trains were VERY loud.

2nd stop...Another train station...to change trains.
3rd stop...Hoof it on foot in the city for 16 blocks to pick up our tour bus tickets. Let's eat an apple along the way.
4th stop...finding the next tourbus stop we wanted to take. We opted for the Batter Park express so she could see the Statue of Liberty right away. Some of the best things about these tour buses is that you get to see more of the city, you can see more of it from up a little, and those tour guides know more about the smallest details that can amaze you! On our way we passed BEHIND ground zero which gave us a much better view than from the front. I will have to get those photos off of Alison's camera.

Doesn't she just look all New York-ery?
So, we hop on the Staten Island Ferry and some "ferry" comes along and steals my little girl's joy! I quickly realize it is the "I'm missing my nap ferry." alison asks her what is wrong and she complains of hot and being worn out. Alison then asks, "Belle, did you not think NY was all outside?" She says, "No." We had some 'splainin' to do...

After adjusting our attitude and dolling out smiles all around, we hopped back on the bus for the rest of the tour. We hop off at Time's Square and she squeals with delight, "Look! It's Times Square! We've seen that, Momma!!!" That was worth it all right there. On and forward...we head to Bubba Gump Shrimp company for some lovely lunch with Jesus' disciples and Jesus asleep (her "plate" was a boat and she told us the fries were the disciples and shrimp in the back of the boat was Jesus asleep.)

We headed back to the hotel for, of course, some more swimming. I left them around 8:30 to enjoy our huge-a-mong-o bed while I headed out here to beautiful Serling Forest for work. yeah...I'm a little tired.

"I think we should just relax a little..."
Those were Belle's words after we finally arrive at the Hotel in New Jersey on Sunday. We woke her up around 3:50 in the AM.
Yes, that is in the morning.
No, she wasn't fully coherent, but neither was I!
Anywho, after some quick toothbrushing and a promise that she would sleep in the car, we were off. That girl didn't sleep...she talked most of the way there. I don't know who her mother is....
After a few tears kissing Daddy goodbye, we got thru security in about 10 minutes.
Yes, I said 10.

...and waited to board our plane. We took off and she was loving it. We came down and she didn't love it quite as much. Once her ears started popping, even all the while smacking some Juicy Fruit (that was for you, Daddy), she was yelling-crying! We got off and got on the longer of the 2 flights and she asked if this one was going to hurt as bad. We, of course trying to avoid the premature wailing and gnashing of teeth, told her no.
She soon figured out, we lied.
But, to cushion the blow, she could actually see NEW YORK CITY! Well...brooklyn, but that's ok.
"Attention all passengers. We are making our final decent into LaGuardia, etc. etc. etc. yada. yada. yada." "Mommy, we are going to land in the water!" Party people...if you have never flown into LaGuardia, let me just forewarn you. YOU LAND IN THE WATER!!! Billie's biggest fear #1...drowning via some horrific incident (ie. bridge collapse, airplane crash, boating accident, etc) and #2...going down in a plane PERIOD. Get thee behind me, Satan! You tried to combine my 2 fears to choke me and I survived! ...and as long as I know how to live, I know I'll stay alive!
Luggage...check!
Meet Kathy at baggage claim...check!
Rental Car...check! (Sweet Pontiac G6, btw...one that corners like it's on rails...not that I would know...yeah...)
Maneuvered from Queens, NY to Mahwah, NJ...check!
Didn't get run over/run someone over on the way...check!
Hotel check in...check!
Move into our little home away from home...check!
Grab some sustenance...check!
Go for a nice warm dip in the pool...HALT! I don't think I've seen Alison's lips that blue...well...ever. So, me in my swimsuit lounged in what little sun was left while they shibbered and shaked.
After coming back in and getting ready for bed (ahem...at 6:30 pm) Alison and I were discussing how we would handle our first day and what all we would do. Belle, in her tired and sweet little voice pops up with, "Um...I think we should just relax here a little. Yeah. That's a great idea."

Bless her bones. She's a real trooper!

Family Prayer
Please pray for the Overstreet family. David's family, including his grandmother traveled up here yesterday to get Luke for the week and left last night. David kissed his Grandmother and told her he loved her and she said, "I love you as if you were my own child." We received word this morning that she had died sometime in the middle of the night in her sleep. We praise God for his GRACE and MERCY for Helena (Henrietta Gorlitz..I think) Bunyea.

I have laughed and loved with both of these women for over 10 years now. As Grandma has now left, Becky and I have so many more years of lovin' and laughin' to do...and we'll do it as though Grandma was still here. I'm so thankful that I got to spend what would literally become her last hours with her...running across the street...dealing with mean people...to get that vivacious little woman her supper...a triple fudgy chocolate something made into a blizzard!

A Legacy

Saturday a sweet member of my family (FSC Family) met Jesus...
And her 2 sweet babies that went on before her...
Renee was a very special friend to me. She and I became friends over scrapbooking, similar trials, and similar blessings. We had been attending church together for quite some time, but God allowed us a point to connect in a special way. She was there for me at a time when only 2 or 3 people knew what was going on in my life...
And God had showed her how I would need her.
She touched many people's lives in that she was the most un-selfish person I have ever met...her whole family is that way. Even during some of the most trying times on this earth for her, she was still striving to find ways to help others.
That was Renee.
God has blessed us so much with her and her family. She has left a legacy in more ways than this blog could tell or everyone that she has touched (including myself) could recount.
The words of this song has continually come to my heart about her since the short few weeks ago when this time began. I want to share it with you now...
"Let it be said of us
While we walked among the living
Let it be said of us
By the ones we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That we lived to be a blessing for life
Let it be said of us
That we gave to reach the dying
Let it be said of us
By the fruit we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That our legacy is blessing for life
This day
You set life, you set death right before us,
This day
Every blessing and curse is a choice now
And we will choose to be a blessing for life
Let it be said of us
That our hearts belonged to Jesus Let it be said of us
That we spoke the words of life
Let it be said of us
That our heritage is blessing for life
For your Kingdom, for our Children
For the sake of every nation
Every blessing, and cursing are choices
Will you build up, or tear down, the moment of truth is NOW!"
--John Waller
In honor of Renee...Where are you right now? Are you hurt? Are you mad? Are you angry? Are you just tired? Renee's husband, Scott, coined the phrase "DM--Don't Matter". (Me and my peeps, my girlfriends at church, have set up camp and wallered all over this phrase!) The things of this world pale in comparison to things that are eternal.
Do you know Jesus! That matters.
Do you love one another! That matters.
Do you want to see Renee again! That matters.
She Knows....
She found out yesterday after church.
Yes...the questions have come every hour since.
She had been guessing all morning what her surprise could be, and NO it was not her "very own car to drive" or "a house all her own". She's funny that way, ya know. Here's the video, or at least as much video as I could upload.
At first you might not think she is very excited...but just keep watching. All along she has always known she was going to go...at some point...when she saved all of her money.
But "WHEN" is the key to this video...

Thank you, Nana!

What is in here?

MY DRESS FOR THE SHOW!!!

I'll miss my Daddy, though...
After all of this she is asking things like, "Does Nana have my ticket? Can I see it? When can I see it?" On our way to church last night she wanted to call LeeAnna (my girlfriend who went with me last time) for advice because "she's been there before". She told LeeAnna she was on her way there now! She told Stephanie she was going TODAY!
Hence why we waited until 7 days prior.
I heart that kiddo....
